About me...The long story

WorkMyTractor.com ...???? you say.  Here is how it all got started.

A little over two years ago I bought a Kubota MX5100 with a front end loader.  It didn't take long before the word got out that I had a tractor so before you knew it I had several friends and family asking if I could come over to their place and move some dirt around, bush hog a field or clear some land for em...  Then it clicked  'Wow...maybe I can make enough money doing side jobs to pay the note on my tractor'.  Within the next month I was a proud owner of an older F350 diesel truck and trailer to pull my tractor around.  You guessed it...the next thing that came around was http://workmytractor.com/.

I placed a few ads on craigslist and local classifieds, then decided I should join the 21st century and make a website for my business.   Unfortunately, I had the misconception that I would instantly have thousands of people scouring over my site.  Well that simply was not the case.  Little did I know gaining that much traffic on a website is not really an easy task, and takes lots of time.  Maybe the pro's can make a site and have it making it to the top of google searches within a weeks time but for me, being a regular ole Joe, I had lots to learn.

At first my site was was centered around my own tractor business.  I would often click my way deep down into google searches trying to find other tractor operators to get a feel of how their sites were set up.  Then one day it dawned on me.  I wasn't the only guy trying to get job leads online and not having much luck. Why not have a common site where folks like me can just post an ad for free?  All it would cost me is a little more time in the evening to help users post their ads and we all benefit from the content of the posts.  For search engines it all boils down to relevant content posted on a site on a regular basis to move up the lines on search results.

So here we are today.  Workmytractor.com is slowly finding itself on the first page of searches.  Occasionally I have someone posting their ad on my site.  Not as much as I would like, but hey, its getting there slowly but surly.  I have since sold my tractor and moved on in life, no longer doing side jobs, but scraping by just like everyone else with a 40 hour a week job.  I keep the site up and running just because I believe in it.  It is certainly not a money maker, but I hope one day it will at least pay for itself instead of me forking over renewal fees and hosting costs every year.

I would love to hear some feed back.  If you have ever gotten a side job from an ad posted on workmytractor.com or found an operator to do the work for you, let me know.  That is all it really takes to justify the time I spend keeping it updated and online.
